Since opening her flagship store in Fortitude Valley’s Winn Lane two months ago, Jess Blak’s unique pieces have proven to be a silver lining amongst Brisbane’s jewellery scene, filling the gap in the market for contemporary silver craftwork that is both high quality and ethically produced.
Walk through the doors of the Jess Blak store and you’ll be greeted by industrial ebony furnishings, creating a minimalistic space that lets Blak’s beautiful pieces shine brightest.
What becomes immediately apparent is Blak’s distinctive style when it comes to silver craftsmanship – each piece, whether it’s a ring, necklace, set of earrings, or brooch is always delicate and organic in design, taking advantage of repetition and balancing elements so that every piece resonates “the juxtaposition of nature and the built environment.”
The exceptional skills Blak puts to use when creating her jewellery were first honed as a Fine Arts student in Melbourne, where she first explored her long-time interests in creating bespoke pieces. In 2015, she headed back to Brisbane, where she continued to enhance her silversmith techniques and the first Jess Blak collection was born.
From the start, Blak has focused on producing completely handcrafted and ethically sustainable silverwork. All the materials she uses are sourced for their ethical transparency as much as their beauty, so she often uses 100% recycled silver forms.
While the Winn Lane store showcases her latest creations, Blak also shines when it comes to creating custom pieces in consultation with clients. Whether it’s a custom reflection ring with lime green spinel or sterling silver adorned with black sapphires, Blak can accommodate.
Don’t just take our word for it though – you can find Jess Blak’s store and one-of-a-kind jewellery at 5G Winn Lane, in the heart of Fortitude Valley.
