The Elephant Hotel
Nothing warms the cockles of our heart like pub grub done right and the stacked schnitties at The Elephant Hotel are the real deal. Located just next door to Cloudland at the top of the Brunswick Street Mall, the Empire Hotel is a beacon for hearty helpings with plenty of rustic chips. The extensive menu meanders through pizzas, burgers, steak and schnitties, plus rotisserie roasted chicken served with chips and satisfying salads. Walk-ins are welcome but with limited seating, it’s best to get along early.
Two words: taco tower. Where to get it? Ivory Tusk, the pastel-hued, Palm Springs-inspired restaurant and space underneath the Woolly Mammoth. The bright inviting space, tropical cocktails and Mexicali-style menu feels like summer, plus there’s the aforementioned taco tower and more filling Mexican street food. At the corner of Ann and Constance streets, the Osbourne has been welcoming hungry and thirsty guests since 1864, making it one of the oldest City bars. This is the spot for warm, welcoming food with unexpected flavour – like Szechuan calamari, fried chicken with sriracha mayo and curry with naan bread – as well as pizzas, burgers and steak. The Royal George (better known as The RG) is one of the Valley’s OG venues with Fortitude Valley’s largest beer garden and four separate bars. If it’s pub grub you’re after, RG’s has steak, fish and chips, burgers, pizza plus five types of parmigiana and Tex-Mex faves on the menu. Head in early to get in. Doors open daily at 11am.
When the winter sun is shining, head to The Wickham’s Garden Bar to soak up the rays and good times.
