Looking for one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts? The Valley is chock-a-block full of crafty types, artisan makers and market stalls so you can source the perfect present for everyone on your list. Here’s our pick of Christmas gift ideas for all budgets for your Santa sack this year.
Fashion and beauty
If it’s sartorial style with an edge or sustainable focus you seek, the Valley is your indie fashion destination. Shop UnCommon Store for a curated selection of emerging Aussies clothing, jewellery and accessories, or head to Practice Studio for new pieces from Brissie designers Nelson Molloy and Homejob plus items from Marut Studio that are designed and made in Moscow. We also love the graphics-led tees and fun accessories at Forge Forward and crafty accessories and clothes at Alice Nightingale that rock a truly unique Aussie vibe. The limited batches of lippies (like the Brisbane hue), foundations and face balms from Dunkle Authentic are perfect for the eco-friendly beauty in your tribe.
Fine jewellery
For fine jewellery that will elicit an excited response, look no further than Jess Blak, Canary Lane and Rebellious Grace. Made on site at their respective ateliers, Jess Blak’s modern take on jewellery champions organic forms for rings, earrings and chains plus leathergoods. Visit Canary Lane for a wide selection of on-trend silver, pearl and mother of pearl earrings as well as bespoke gemstone rings and pendants. For designer jewellery minus the price tag, Rebellious Grace has plenty of delicate and covetable styles for lovers of elegant jewellery available until the end of December at the California Lane pop-up shop.
Music and collectables
The Valley is Brisbane’s live music mecca, so it’s the perfect place to source a present for music fans. Give the gift of music from the huge range of vintage and new instruments at Tym Guitars. For records, cassettes and merch, head into one of the Valley’s vinyl stores such as Butter Beats for rare collectables and Phase 4 Records + Cassettes for all things vintage. For those into dance music and DJs, the newly opened QUIVR x Echo & Bounce is a new shop on Winn Lane for DJ gear, vinyl and merchandise.
For the houseproud homebody, deck the halls with stunning wares from Finnley Home. From organic ceramics to soft furnishings, colourful glass vases to room scents, these one-of-a-kind homewares will take pride of place as decor for years to come.
Foodie finds
Got a foodie to gift for? The Valley has everyone from sweet tooths to home cooks, craft beer aficionados and coffee fans covered. Sprinkle some festive cheer and say it in sugar with iced cookies, cake pops and celebratory cakes from Cakes & Sh!t. Head to Bear Bones Coffee for freshly ground, single-origin and filter roast beans to stock up your loved one’s home barista set-up. We also love Only. Specialty Coffee for a range of Australian beans plus Brill Coffee freeze-dried instant specialty coffee for those without coffeemakers at home. For the kitchen whiz, gift the new range of cook-at-home sauces from Super Bowl Chinese Restaurant
Craft brews
With two craft breweries in the Valley, the drinks are on us! Treat your fave beer drinker to local canned brews from Soapbox Beer (we love the Aussie flavours such as Pollie Waffle – ReSession Ale and Pow Wow – Carrot Cake Ale). There’s also the all-year beer range from Stone & Wood Brisbane brewery, but we reckon Christmas is a great time to try the limited edition Counter Culture can releases for a festive taste sensation.
Festive markets
For a one-stop shop that covers all bases, you can’t go past the Valley Laneway Markets. A Very Laneway Christmas is on Friday 4 December to shop local makers and artisan wares from 5pm to 8pm. Think handmade soaps and beauty products, hand-flung ceramics, handsewn clothing and accessories, hand-harvested honey, hand-reared potted plants and handcrafted homewares – in fact, everything is made by hand and with love by locals! We love that and so will your pressie recipients.
