16 best friend hangs in the Valley

Looking for something new to do with your BFF outside the usual coffee catch-up? As well as being one of Australia’s dedicated entertainment precincts, the Valley has loads of options for you and your mates to do something different when you meet up. Here’s some ideas to get you started:

1. Do dim sum

Talking of eating, the Valley is the place on the northside for a classic yum cha get-together. One of our faves is Golden Palace, one of the first Chinese restaurants to introduce yum cha to Brisbane.

Did you know the Valley was to be home to the Southern Hemisphere’s largest and most impressive cathedral? Find out where on this heritage trail.

3. Get your game face on at Netherworld

Fancy yourself a player? Take your mates on in retro arcade games, pinball machines, gaming consoles and even old-school board games at Netherworld arcade bar.

4. Throw some darts at Oche

Book a booth for some darts-throwing action at Oche Fortitude Valley. Each session is 85 minutes, so plenty of time for a catchup and some friendly competition.

5. Putt some shots at Holey Moley Golf Club

Sink some drinks and balls at Holey Moley Golf Club Fortitude Valley. Plaid shorts are optional, but booking online is not. Book 9 or 18 holes, or hire a private karaoke room – your choice!

6. Get a matching tattoo at Valley Ink

Care to make your friendship commitment permanent? Get a matching custom tattoo at Valley Ink. Walk-ins are accepted, but booking ahead is better.

7. Sip margaritas at Brisbane’s newest rooftop pop-up

Raise the roof with a Mexican fiesta at Maya. The rooftop restaurant and bar is here for a good time, not a long time, so head along before the six-month pop-up’s time is up!

8. Do a beginner groove dance class at V-Hub

Need to raise your TikTok game? Sign up for a casual dance class at V-Hub dance studio on McLachlan Street for you and your bestie to learn some new moves.

9. Learn the basics of Brazilian samba

You and your bestie can sashay your way to Carnival with a Sambaliscious Fundamentals course with Mishel at Elements Collective studio.

10. Catch a live gig at The Zoo

Live music is back, baby! The Anti-Social Series at The Zoo is centred around supporting local artists and beloved venues, so grab tix for two and rock out (while socially distancing).

11. Belt it out at karaoke

Get your song ready – karaoke is back on at Blute’s bar every Friday and Saturday night from 8pm. Only one singer is allowed on the stage at a time, so you and your mate can both shine!

12. Brush up on trivia

Get your A-Team together for Trivia Thursdays at The Wickham from 7pm. Register your table and you can bring your fur baby along, too.

13. Shake it up with a monthly cocktail class

Book yourself and your bestie in to steal some bartending flair with a Cocktail Masterclass at Dutch Courage Officers’ Mess on a Saturday arvo.

14. Take a barista and coffee art class at Coffee School Brisbane

Take the coffee catchup to the classroom with an all-day barista and coffee art sesh that will see you and your bestie master latte art and learn how to pour the perfect cuppa.

15. Try poppin’ and lockin’

Do a beginner break class with your crew at Elements Collective on Tuesday nights. The casual drop-in is $15 each for a one-hour sesh.

16. Have a dance-off

For a less structured danceathon, challenge your buddy to bust a move with a Dance Dance Revolution duet at B.Lucky & Sons Fortitude Valley.
